Join us for a unique architectural journey through three of Brazil’s most iconic cities: São Paulo, Brasília, and Rio de Janeiro. This 10-day trip offers a deep dive into the cultural and architectural diversity of a country where modernism took on a bold, expressive identity.
São Paulo
Our journey begins in São Paulo, Brazil’s vibrant cultural and economic capital. Known for its dynamic urban energy and cosmopolitan atmosphere, the city is home to a rich architectural heritage. The Paulista School—born here—championed a bold, concrete modernism exemplified by the works of Lina Bo Bardi, Vilanova Artigas, and Oscar Niemeyer.
Highlights include visits to Casa Masetti designed by Paulo Mendes da Rocha, the Vilanova Artigas House, and a special tour of Studio MK27, home to Marcio Kogan’s acclaimed team. The city’s cultural energy and bold architecture offer the perfect starting point.
Brasília
Next, we travel to Brasília, symbol of mid-century modernist ambition. The city impresses with its sweeping urban plan by Lucio Costa. Its Monumental Axis gathers many of the country’s most iconic buildings, including Niemeyer’s National Congress, Planalto Palace, Cathedral of Brasília, and the Cultural Complex of the Republic. A walk through Brasília is a journey through history, symbolism, and utopian ideals brought to life in concrete and space.
Rio de Janeiro
We end our trip in Rio de Janeiro, aptly named La Cidade Maravilhosa—the Marvelous City. Here, nature and architecture meet in spectacular harmony. Highlights include Oscar Niemeyer’s MAC in Niterói, the lush landscape designs of Burle Marx, notable works from the 2016 Olympic legacy, and several remarkable contemporary buildings.
A visit to the Instituto dos Arquitetos do Brasil (IAB) headquarters in Flamengo will offer insight into the local architectural discourse and its connection to Brazil’s wider cultural fabric.
And on New Year’s Eve, you’ll have the unforgettable chance to celebrate Réveillon—Rio’s iconic beachside celebration filled with music, fireworks, and vibrant traditions.
